Everything Ceramic Coatings
✅ What Is a Ceramic Coating?
A ceramic coating is a long-lasting, glass-like layer (typically silicon dioxide or polysiloxane) applied to your car’s exterior that:
Protects paint from contaminants like bird droppings, UV rays, bugs, and acid rain
Provides an ultra-glossy finish
Makes the car easier to clean with water-beading effects
🛡️ Why It’s Worth It
Protects your investment
Protects against very minor damage from swirls, scratches, and environmental exposure
Keeps your car looking newer for longer
Helps maintain resale value
⏳ How Long Do They Last (in MILES)?
Velocity measures coating longevity by average yearly mileage, not just time like other detailers. We do this because the paint get the majority of the hit when its being driven:
NOTE: Now every Ceramic Coating no matter the stated longevity will last according to many different factors. Things such as how often you drive and where, the local weather, if you park outside or under a carport or not, how hard the clear coat is on your vehicle (yes this is a thing), and how often you maintain your vehicle!
🧼 Top 5 Aftercare Tips
Wash regularly with pH-balanced auto shampoo (avoid harsh soaps and drive-thru tunnel washes)
Avoid harsh environments (construction zones, extreme weather)
Use a ceramic booster spray every few months
Clean off bird droppings/sap ASAP—they’re highly acidic
Park in shaded or covered spots to prevent UV damage
💸 Cost Expectations
Expect $1,000+ for a full-size SUV coating with correction
Be cautious of cheap coatings under $500—usually poor quality, applied incorrectly, takes more money to fix
Avoid “dealership coatings” – often ineffective and overpriced for what you get. Also takes more money to fix
🛠️ How the Process Works (3 Steps)
1. Prep the Paint
Pre-wash and hand wash
Iron decontamination
Clay bar treatment
Solvent wipe-down
2. Paint Correction
(optional, but highly recommended)
Levels out paint imperfections before applying the coating
Paint Enhancement – fixes some imperfections (most popular)
One Step or Two Step Correction – removes more swirls/scratches
Not always required, but improves coating longevity and appearance
3. Ceramic Coating Application
Takes 1–3 hours to apply after prep and correction
Full job takes 1–2 days total depending on the correction level and vehicle size
