Wax is of the Past!

I know you have probably read something about this topic before but I just had to hop on the trend even though I am late, but… Car wax has been used for ages to give vehicles a glossy finish and provide a layer of protection from the elements. However, it can be argued that car wax is old technology for various reasons. Firstly, it requires more frequent reapplication as it tends to wear off quicker than the new stuff, especially in extreme weather conditions. This can be time-consuming and labor-intensive. Additionally, car wax may not be as effective in protecting cars from modern environmental hazards such as UV damage, bird droppings, acid rain, and even just beading water. The application process itself can be messy and requires manual effort, making it less convenient compared to newer alternatives in the market. Sure you have spray wax that is more efficient, but overall, while car wax has its benefits, advancements in automotive technology have introduced more efficient and long-lasting options, making car wax seem outdated.

If wax is the past, whats the present and future?

I am glad you asked! There are different technologies like touch-less chemicals, polymers, ceramics, and graphene coatings and sealants. These newer technologies have much better protection against all the environmental hazards. While traditional wax can be better at hiding small scratches and really bringing a deep color out, coatings and sealants have the same gloss with even better protection. I keep bringing up the word protection because that is what makes your dollar worth it. Having a longer duration of protection makes you, the customer, happier for longer. Especially when your money is on the line.

Ok, so whats the difference between all of those new technologies?

Another great question! I am glad you are interested in learning what this is so you can make more informed decisions on products whether you’re choosing DIY style or hiring Velocity to do it for you. The polymer category is a little older compared to ceramics and I would consider it a step above a traditional wax. It has very good water beading properties and it is super easy to apply. There is a product called “Bead Maker” from a reputable brand and that is a polymer based spray. It is a fantastic product for the DIY consumer. Next is the Touch-less chemicals. I have no idea how chemists do it but they have created SI02 “Ceramic” spray and rinse products that are so efficient I actually use them on my customers vehicles. They provide good protection and water beading properties and its super fast to apply… You can’t beat it in my opinion! If you want to know the exact product I use Click Here. It’s highly dillutable and offers good protection. If you want a good one from your local walmart, try this one.

So you have probably heard of the word ceramic coating thrown around and that is the cream of the crop when it comes to protection. It is as hard as glass and offers the highest level of protection against the elements. The application requires knowledge, time, weather conditions, and a slew of other things. It is possible to DIY if you know what you are doing and quite frankly, it is also cheaper. Especially if you are not polishing your own paint. Some of the main differences between Ceramic Coatings and wax is the longevity of the protection lasting years instead of weeks. The actual protection itself is almost like a layer of glass that is being applied to the paint, that is why it will last so long. to learn more about ceramic coatings and long term protection. check out the ceramic coating section of this website. Now on to Graphene, which you have probably never heard of before. To make it as simple as I can, Graphene coatings are the same as ceramic coating with a graphene molecule attached to the chemical compound. This is supposed to be designed to make the coating a little easier to apply and give better protection properties. I have not used a graphene coating yet but I have read and heard that they are different in the application process due to a “more tacky” removal. That could be a useful trait so you know that it is fully leveled and buffed of when it becomes slick.

That is my take as to why WAX IS DEAD and THE NEW HAS ARRIVED! If you have any questions or want to have any of these forms of protection applied to your vehicle. Contact me here! If you dont have any questions and you dont want any services for your vehicle, click here!
